USDA Awards Grants for Urban Forestry Initiatives

The department is partnering with faith-based organizations to support tree planting and green space development in communities.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a $1 million grant from the department’s Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry program, designated for the Church Of God In Christ (COGIC). The funding will assist the church in planting trees, expanding access to green spaces, and fostering local workforce development in the communities they serve.

Secretary Vilsack said, “Faith-based and community organizations are often critical to helping USDA programs reach the communities who need them most, and I am grateful to the Church Of God In Christ’s leadership for their partnership in USDA’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. This award will build on similar efforts underway across the country.”

The Urban and Community Forestry Program, dedicated to expanding the nation’s urban forest resources, received $1 billion in funding in 2023 through President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. The program selected 385 grant proposals nationwide.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack to receive direction from the Lord as he oversees the Agriculture Department.
  • For USDA officials as they support the Urban and Community Forestry Program.
